Liberator crashed during a pilot check flight on Friday, near Amberley, have now been released. They are: — Flight. -Lieut. George Allan Hendy (flight commander), East Malvern. Flying-Officer, Raymond Frank PuIIin (pilot), Cremorne.N.S.W. Flying-Officer James Harold Mutton (co-pilot), Dungog (N.S.W.). Flight-Sergeant, Vincent , John Quinn (wireless operator) , Largs Bay (S.A.). Sergt. George Alfred Dureau (flight engineer) , Rosebrook. via Port Fairy, The plane had circled the aero-drome once after taking off, when the engine appeared to fall. The pilot is believed to have attempted a crash landing, but the plane struck the ground short of the runway, and, travelling at high speed, struck some trees, over-turned and burst into flames. The crew were incinerated before help could reach them. [1]
