Biography

Abraham RADER was born about 20 January 1778/79 in Rockingham County, Virginia. He was the son of Michael Rader and Catherine Long. He passed away on 7 January 1858 in Greenbrier County, Virginia.[1] He is buried in the Old Stone Presbyterian Church in Lewisburg, Greenbrier County, West Virginia.

Abraham RADER was married on 29 December 1802 in Botetourt County, Virginia to Jemima "Jennifer" HOWELL.[2], [3] She was the daughter of Abner HOWELL. Jemima "Jennifer" HOWELL was born about 25 December 1769 in Botetourt County, Virginia and died about 30 December 1813.

Abraham RADER married a second time in Botetourt County, Virginia to Harriet Grenshaw BECK. Harriet was the daughter of Elizah BECK and Elizabeth McClanahan.

1820 United States Federal Census Record of Frankfort, Greenbrier County, Virginia contains a household of Abraham RADER[4] which contains:
1 Free White Male Aged Between 10 and 16 Years
1 Free White Male Aged Between 16 and 18 Years
1 Free White Male Aged Between 16 and 26 Years
1 Free White Male Aged Between 26 and 45 Years
1 Free White Female Aged 45 Years or More

Children:

Abraham and Jemima had at least five sons. Four of those sons were killed in the American Civil War. The only son that survived the Civil War was James Howell RADER.

Abraham's will[5] stated that his wife was named Harriet and that he had four grandchildren: Mary Anne E. DICKSON, James G. RADER, Elijah W. RADER and Green A. RADER.

These four grandchildren were the children of James Howell RADER and his wife, Elizabeth McCLANAHAN.[6], [7]
Mary Anne C. RADER married to William DICKSON on 24 June 1847 in Greenbrier County, Virginia[8]
James G. RADER - age 18 years in 1850[9] - married 8 December 1857 in Augusta County, Virginia to Sally J. McCLUNG[10] - marriage to Sally McCLUNG stated that James was son of James H. RADER and Elizabeth W. CLANAHAR[10] - listed as J. Griffin RADER in 1860[11]
Green A. RADER - age 29 Years in 1860[12] - Died: 31 August 1861 in Greenbrier County, Virginia from Typhoid Fever[13]
Elijah W. RADER who died of Typhoid Fever on 31 August 1861 in Greenbrier County, Virginia[14]
