Marriage (1):

Spouse (1):

Children from 1st Marriage:

The 1900 census record listed that she had 8 children, but only 4 were living at the time of enumeration. While not always correct, it can be a good starting point in research. As of yet research has only been able to identify 7 children, none of whom appear to have recorded birth records. Census Records seem to indicate she had the following children by her 1st husband:
  1. Martha A. ASHLEY
  2. Emma D. ASHLEY
  3. James or John W. ASHLEY
  4. Daniel Benton ASHLEY
  5. Albert M. ASHLEY

Marriage (2):

Estimated as being between 1847 - 1849 based upon the 1850 census age of Albert M. ASHLEY (age 3 years), a child of her first husband, and the 1850 census age of Catharine SLEETH (age of 6 months), a child of her second husband.

Spouse (2):

She was listed in the household of Runfew SLEETH in 1850 with the SLEETH surname and an apparent 6 month old daughter, Catharine SLEETH. Also in the household were 5 children with the surname of ASHLEY.
Runfew SLEETH was not listed in the 1860 census household. Note: all children in this household were using the SLEETH surname, even the ones who were from Harriet's first marriage. The youngest child listed in 1860 was Mary SLEETH (age 3 years). This means that if Runfew had died it was probably between 1856 and 1860.
An online burial memorial was located for him - Find A Grave: Memorial #51797037 - stating he was buried in Good Hope Cemetery, Reedy, Roane County, West Virginia. The burial memorial does not have much information. It contains no sources, no dates, no tombstone picture and is not proof of anything. That cemetery has been noted to contain some of Harriet's family, some of which are in unmarked graves, so it could be his burial location as well.

Census Records:

1850 United States Federal Census Record of Kanawha County, Virginia[5]

Children from 2nd Marriage:

The 1900 census record listed that she had 8 children, but only 4 were living at the time of enumeration. While not always correct, it can be a good starting point in research. As of yet research has only been able to identify 7 children, none of whom appear to have recorded birth records. No unidentified children have been found in the death records of Kanawha or Roane County, West Virginia. Census Records seem to indicate she had the following children by her 2nd husband:
  1. Catherine SLEETH
  2. Mary SLEETH
Note: Gap of 8 years between birth estimated for Catherine and Mary might indicate that the family might have additional children.

Catherine SLEETH

1850 Census in father's household, age reported as 6 months and born in Virginia
1860 census in household of mother, age reported as 11 Years and born in Virginia[6]

Mary SLEETH

1860 census in household of mother, age reported as 3 Years and born in Virginia[6]
