Though typically identified as the son of Holland Ramsey, George Ragland and Holland Ramsey did not marry until three years after Francis's birth. Additionally, Holland would have been only 12 years old at the time of Francis's birth. More likely Francis was the product of an earlier marriage of George W. Ragland that has not been identified.

Francis Ragland was a Buffalo Hunter, Cowboy, Dairyman, and Store-Keeper. He served in the Civil War, Pvt., Co. G, 16th Miss. Inf. Regt. (CSA), 1861. He was a Pvt., Co. C, 8th Co. K, 28th Miss. Cav. Regt. (CSA), 1863-1865. He was wounded in battle.
Francis married, 1874, Williamson Co., Tennessee, Margaret House. They had 4 children.[2]
Francis Ragland died, 1917, Bexar County, Texas.[3]He was buried in the Bagdad Cemetery, Leander, Williamson, Texas.
