On June 26, 1901, Michelina Raimondo Del Gatto, aged 65(?) and her son, Oreste Del Gatto, aged 23, boarded the SS Hesperia for New York, leaving their home in Rotello, Italy for a new life. It was their first trip to the United States, perhaps their first trip to anywhere away from home. They arrived on July 15th. Their passage had been paid by a relative and they had $70 and were perhaps joining relatives. (I found the writing on the manifesto difficult to decipher.Delgatto-2 16:16, 5 March 2015 (EST)) She is widowed and he is single.
