Captain John Raines served with Prince George County Militia, Virginia Militia during the American Revolution.

John Raines is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A093541.

Captain John Raines was born July 5, 1726, in Prince George's county, Virginia. He is honored by the Daughters of the American Revolutionary War for his Patriotic Service. [1] John was a Captain in the Prince George's county Militia, during the American Revolutionary War, and he served as a member of the Committee of Intelligence on May 8, 1775. [2]

John's parents were Thomas Henry (1705-) and Elizabeth SISSION Raines(1710-1773. He married Amy GOODWYN Raines January 14, 1762, in Sussex County, VA. They had five known children and they were:

  • Robert Stewart Raines, "RWS" married Sara(h) Thweatt Hamilton
  • Cadwallader Raines (m. Lucretia Parham),
  • Thomas Raines, "RWS" II married Sarah "Sally" Abercrombie, in 1786
  • Amy Goodwyn Raines married Robert Stewart
  • John Russell Raines

Captain John is on the 1790 census in Greenville County, South Carolina and the 1810 census in Giles County,VA. Some researchers believe he died in 1788, however, DAR records indicate that he died post 1790. DAR records also indicate that he lived at one time in Georgia. According to his Find A Grave Memorial, he is buried in the Wakefield Cemetery, in Sussex county, Virginia. [3]
