Biography

Peggy Anne Shaw, 76, of 500 Carskadon Lane, Keyser, formerly of Westernport, passed away Friday, March 28, 2008, at her residence.

Born May 22, 1931, in Luke, she was the daughter of the late Virgil Lewis and Lela Louise (Ravenscroft) Raines. Her husband, Maurice A. Shaw Sr., and a sister, Shirley Blackburn, also preceded her in death.

Peggy was a Girl Scout leader for 30 years and received the Nations Capital Council Award. She also served as board member of the Shawnee Girl Scout Council, Board Member of the Burlington Children's Home, Board Member and Secretary of Teen Town in Westernport, 20 years Secretary Bruce High School Alumni, member Westernport Police Dept. for 27 years, protecting generations of children on their way to school in Westernport. Additionally she served as Potomac Heights Apartments Secretary and Vice President, Ceramics Instructor, Floral Arranger, Diabetes Education Program Potomac Valley Hospital as Community Representative, Burlington United Methodist Foundation Services as mailing volunteer, and Volunteer Reader Energy Express, Keyser Primary Middle School.

She leaves behind a son, Maurice A. Shaw, Jr. (Buzz) of Boerne, Texas; a daughter, Margaret E. Custer, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; a brother, Harry Wright Raines, of Paramus, N.J.; a sister, Mary Lou Whitefield, of Frederick; and grandchildren, Angela Custer Johnson, Jennifer N. Newman (Custer), and William Wright K. Shaw. She is also survived by nieces and nephews, Steven D. Whitefeild, Cheri Cantanese, Leslie B. Keating and families.

The family will receive friends at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Monday from 1 to 3 p.m.

A memorial service will be conducted in the funeral home chapel on Monday at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Bart Thompson officiating.

Inurnment will be in Philos Cemetery, Westernport.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Burlington Children's Home or United Methodist Church, Piedmont.
