Biography

Etta Jane Rainey was the eldest of eight children of James Rainey and his wife Lillian Adelle Hovenden. She was born in 1886 at Seiad, Siskiyou, California^[1]. Etta's mother died in 1896.

Etta J Rainey and three of her siblings were living with her grandparents in Etna township, Siskiyou, California at the time of the 1900 US census. Etta was age 14, living with her grandfather Charles Hovenden (72), grandmother Sytheria E Hovenden (62), aunt Nellie M Hovenden (29), uncle Charles W Hovenden (25) and her siblings Ruth E Rainey (8), Effie A Rainey (5) and Maud L Rainey (4). Also Daniel Kingery (27), Lodger^[2].

In 1910 most of Etta's siblings were living with their father James Rainey at Oak Bar, Siskiyou, California. In the US Census for 1910, Etta J Rainey was age 24, living at Fort Jones, Siskiyou, California with Sytheria Hovenden (72), her grandmother, who was a widow by this point^[3].

Etta Jane Rainey married Adrian Barnes Wells on 16 November 1916, at Phoenix, Maricopa, Arizona^[4].

Adrian and Etta Wells had four known children: twins Elizabeth And Lillian Wells (b. 1921), Robert Wells (b, 1927) and Otto Wells (b. 1930). Elizabeth died in 2015 and her memorial noted she was the last surviving sibling.

In the 1920 US census Etta Wells was age 33, living at Globe, Gila, Arizona with her husband Adrian Wells (29)^[5].

In the 1930 US census Etta J Wells was age 43, living at Globe, Gila, Arizona with her husband Adrian B Wells (40) and their children Elizabeth M Wells (8), Lillian M Wells (8), Robert R Wells (3) and baby Otho B Wells^[6].

Etta J Wells died in 1949. She was buried at the Greenwood Memory Lawn Cemetery in Phoenix, Maricopa, Arizona^[1].
