Note NI0468For example, Hamilton Rails, of Hogansville, Troup Co, GA, Ga., was more than a peach fanner. He worked for Secretary of Agriculture Clinton Anderson for a time in the Roosevelt Administration; he ran for governor of Georgia twice; he was Commissioner of Game and Fish for the State of Georgia; he was (as you have noted) Supt. of the huge farm at Reidsville State Prison; and he was mayor of Hogansville later in life. He was a colorful, active man and a commanding figure as were all the children of the Rev. H.B. Ralls. He died in Hogansville, Troup Co, GA at the age of 93 and is buried there next to his two wives. (Vera was is first wife. She died several years before he did). Hamilton was a Methodist and the church in Hogansville was literally filled with flowers at his funeral. Hogansville businesses closed during the hour of the funeral, as is still the custom there in honor of prominent citizens.
