Biography
Frances was born in 1853. Her birth was registered in Gloucester and her mother's maiden name was Nelmes. [1] She was baptised by parents Francis and Eliza.
In 1861 her mother Eliza was widowed and Frances was the youngest of the 3 children living in the household in South Hamlet, Gloucester. [2]
On 12 October 1869 Frances married William Henry Williams at Gloucester. William Henry was a Mixer in the Match Works and his father William Henry was a Cashier in a mercantile office. Frances father Francis as been a Sawyer. [3]
In 1881 Francis, now aged 28 and widowed, was living with her mother Eliza and 5 children. [4]
In 1881 (from children's birth records) Frances 'got together' with William Norman and they had a family, but didn't marry until 1904. This is confirmed as their children have the surname Williams and middle name Norman. They are listed on the census return with the surname Norman.
In 1891 William Norman was living in South Hamlet, Gloucester with lodgers Frances Williams and her 2 children from her previous marriage. They also had 6 children living there (with the middle name Norman and surname Norman). William was a Blacksmith. [5]
In 1901 William was living with Frances (Williams) as his wife and they lived with 5 children. A Frederick Williams, visitor, lived there - he was Frances' son (confirmed with a birth record). [6] The 1911 census confirmed they had been together for 30 years and had 17 children of whom 8 had died. William was a blacksmith for a Railway Carriage Waggon company. [7] Whether the count of children was just for Frances and William Norman or all Frances' children (there were at least 3), I'm not sure.
She passed away in 1929 aged 75. [8]
