Janet was born about 1820 in Scotland. She was th daughter of William Ralston and Elizabeth Andrew.

She came to the US with her family in 1842. [1]

They were one of the early families at the Scottish Settlement at Argyle in Illinois.

She married Alexander McKay. They had one child, Margaret, born in 1867.

She passed away in 1882.
