Mary was born in 1871. She was the daughter of David Ralston and Janet Picken. [1]

Mary Ellen passed away in 1958.
BROWN - Mrs. Mary E. Brown, 86, Roscoe, died at 5:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, 1958, in her home after a 10-day illness. Born Jan. 20, 1871, in Caledonia, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Ralston. Lived 43 years in Roscoe. Married to John P. Brown in Caledonia Dec. 15, 1892. Member of Willow Creek Presbyterian Church, Argyle.
Survivors include: her husband; two sons, David C. Brown, Caledonia, and William R. Brown, Rockford; a daughter, Mrs. Edward M. Ralston, Rockford; four grandsons, D. Gerald Brown, Phoenix, Ariz., Raymond A. Brown, San Francisco, Cal., and Carleton W. Brown and John E. Brown, both of Rockford; two granddaughters, Mrs. Everett Worrell, Capron, and Mrs. Paul G. Wright, University City, Mo.; and four great-grandchildren. Services at 3 p.m. Monday in BURPEE-WOOD FUNERAL HOME, 420 N. Main st., with the Rev. Lester Reemstma, pastor of Willow Creek Presbyterian church, Argyle, officiating. Burial in Scottish cemetery, Argyle. No visitation.[3]
John and Mary were first cousins, once removed. Charles Brown was the great grandfather of Mary and the grandfather of John.
