Obituary

Funeral services for Edward Ralston, 75, who died at Rockford hospital early Tuesday after an illness of five months, will be held Thursday, at 1:30 p. m. at the home, a mile and a half east of Argyle, and at 2 p. m. at Willow Creek Presbyterian church. The Rev. Alan Darling will officiate, and burial will be in the Argyle Scottish cemetery.

Mr. Ralston, the son of Gavin and Jane Breckenridge Ralston, was born Aug. 7, 1864. His parents came to the United States from Scotland in 1841, settling on a farm between Argyle and Caledonia. They were among the first settlers in northern Illinois.

For the last 38 years, he has resided on a farm on the Beloit-Belvidere road, adjoining the homestead. He was ruling elder of the Willow Creek church for 37 years and benevolent treasurer for 32 years. He also was a member of the school board that directed construction of the Argyle Consolidated school building.

He married Mary Ellen Ralston, daughter of George and Margaret McPhail Ralston, June 12, 1902. He is survived by his widow; three sons, George G. Ralston of Caledonia, and Edward M. and Wilbur at home; a daughter, Margaret, a member of the Rockford high school faculty; two brothers, David and Gavin; a sister, Jane, residing on the homestead, and a grandson, Keith McNair Ralston.
