Biography

Samuel was born about 1803. He passed away very early in 1863.

Samuel's birth year is unclear as we have no birth certificate available.

The Samuel Ramsay born 7 May 1805 at Monikie is not be the same as the Samuel Ramsay who died at Adelaide in 1863. Samuel's age on his death certificate is 61 years which would suggest he was born in 1802 or even 1801.

For the 30/31 March 1851 Census, Samuel gave his age as 47 which would have made him born very early 1804 or, more likely, 1803. His birth place was given as Edinburgh on both documents.

When Samuel and his family emigrated to South Australia in 1851 his age on the passenger list for the SS Navarino was 47 years and his birth place Edinburgh. This would suggest that he was born in 1803 or 1804 not May 1805.
