Of Longley Hall, in Almondbury, by right of his sister-in-law apparently.
Younger son of Robert Ramsden. Christened 1512 Elland, Yorkshire. Purchased enclosed land in Huddersfield from Sir John Byron in 1571. Granted a family coat of arms in 1575. Built Longley New Hall in 1576/7. [1]

John Ramsden, of Longley Hall (younger son), under farmer of the Queen's revenues within the manor of Huddersfield. Returned at the Visitation of York, in 1585, as one of the gentlemen of the wapentake of Agbrigg. He died 3 July 1591, buried at Almondbury, inq. p m. taken at Halifax, 15 November, 33 Elizabeth and administration granted at York, 15 December 1591 to his sons William and John.[2]
