1887 according to the newspapers, William Halliday was ordered to pay child maintenance through the courts. Speculation that the couple seperated before this time, and further information might be available in court records.

CASE OF STABBING AT MACED0N.MACEDON, Friday.
A telegram was received by the Woodend police that Air Burnett, landlord of the Macedon hotel, had been stabbed. Mr Helaey, the mounted trooper stationed at Woodend, proceeded to Macedon, and found that Mrs William Halliday, residing there, had gone to the hotel im search of her husband, and on finding him there became very excited, Bhe being slightly intoxicated. After throwing the lighted kerosene lamp on the "floor and breaking it, thereby almost setting fire to the hotel she flung the weights that were lying on the counter at Mr Burnett and her husband, and finally stabbed the former in the left side, immediately below the ribs, whilst they were tiying to pacify her. Fortunately Mr Burnett was rather thickly clothed over the spot, having Test, trousers, shirt, and flannel on, and the blade of the knife must also have been short, so only a slight wound was inflicted. Trooper Healey arrested the woman, bringing her to Woodend, where she was locked up She was brought before Mr William Glover, J.P., on a charge of illegally wounding, and remanded till Monday, bail being allowed, L50 in her own recognisance and two sureties in L25 each. The bail was obtained.—Daily Telegraph. [10]
(FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT Friday. There are certain men in this world who if they only look at you, you know there is something about their meaning and they are likely to drop on you when least expected. Constable W M E from Woodend, who until lately had charge of the district bot was unfortunately re moved some where else instead of here, is an exception to the above class of people ; and whatever district he takes charge of will know that he gets up a case fairly and honestlv with no eavesdropping tactics. I hope to see Constable Lawless in charge of this district again ere long. Police court cases in Gisborne from Macedon in connection with the late Christmas Carnival took place on Thursday. Charlie Halliday, battered and insulted two men lately named Hildebrandt and Hart, and on the two counts had to put £6 for his entertainment. At the same court Elizabeth Halliday sued William Halliday her husband, for arrears of maintenance. It appeared that about two years ago the bench made an order on defendant for 10s per week. This he said " he was d------ d if he would pay : he would sooner go to gaoL" The bench being aware of the hardships Mr Halliday has undergone through family and other matters, and that he was deserving of their sympathy said it was a question of obeying a previous order and he must pay or go to gaol. Mr Halliday however stuck to his original idea of going to gaol. The daughter was then put in the witness box, and asked if she recognised the two litigants as her parents. She replied they were both so to her. The prosecutrix sang out he was not her father. The bench here peremptorily ordered her to sit down and said they were not going to have any of her filthy talk there. An order for £5, in full payment of all arrears against Mr Halliday, me the case. The bench did the thing very fairly[11]

Ramsey-3910 and Ramsey-322 appear to represent the same person because: Ramsey-322 is an old gedcom import with no dates, but marriage is right and text has a link to correct son.
