Robert Rand migrated to New England during the Puritan Great Migration (1621-1640). (See The Great Migration (Series 2), by R. C. Anderson, vol. 6, p. 1) Join: Puritan Great Migration Project Discuss: pgm
[Note: RE: wife Alice (___) Previous authors, in the 1850's, have claimed that Alice was the daughter of Nicholas Sharpe based on the fact that Richard Sprague and his wife Mary (Sharpe) Sprague left bequests to Alice and her children, Mary calling her 'my sister'. However the relationship remains unproven. See GMVI NIcholas Sharpes' daughter Alice married 'Netherstreete' See. NEHGR165]
[Note: Some texts indicate that Robert Rand of Lynn, Massachusetts was their child, but there is no evidence to support this. See: NEHGR165]
Robert Rand is estimated to have been born about 1597, son of John and Katherine (__) Rand of Ridgewell, Essex, England. [1]
His father John Rand, wrote his will on May 4, 1614 and proved on March 1, 1616/7. He left his estate to son John, providing he pay brother Robert L10 within 6 months of his death and another L10 after Katherine's death. [1]
Robert married Alice (___) at Ridgewell on November 16, 1622,[1] the family coming to Charlestown, Massachusetts Bay by July 1635. [1][2]
1635: july 11: The town of Charlestown ordered that 'Goodman Rand is to sit down with us.' [2]
1635: Robert Rand had three hayground allotments, later increased to four. [2]
1636/7: January 13: Goodman Rand was granted land to build a house. [2]
1636/7: March 6: He had 5 acres on the Mystic Side. [2]
1638: He had 3 cow commons in the 'stinted commons.' [2]
1638: April 23: Robert Rand was granted lots 15 and 35, and 5 acres on the Mystic Side. [2]
Robert died by January 26, 1659/50, when Alice Rand, widow, purchased land from Manis Sally of Charlestown. [1][2]
1649/50: January 26: Widow Alice Rand purchased land at Charlestown from Manis Sally. [2]
1649/50: January 26: Widow Alice Rand sold to Lawrence Dous, the above land purchased on Manis Salley and 1/2 acre arable land situated near Charlestown Hill. [2]
1650: April 18: Widow Alice Rand sold land which 'belonged to her in dividends' to Joseph Carter. [2]
Alice died at Charlestown on July 29, 1691. Her age noted to be 98 years is likely inflated by a decade. [2]
Alice Rand, relict widow of Robert Rand, wrote her will on August 22, 1683 and it was proved on August 17, 1691. In it she named:
son Nathaniel Rand
four daughters - Margery Dowse, Susanna Newell, Alice Lord, wife of Thomas, and Elizabeth Brewer
Her estate inventory taken on August 12, 1691, was valued at L230 of which L206 10s was real estate. [2]

Information for Robert Rand (1590-1640) - Find A Grave: Memorial #92482717:
Robert Rand, immigrant ancestor, came from England around 1635 and settled in Charlestown, Massachusetts. In the town Book of Possessions, dated 1638, mention is made of property owned by Robert Rand, including one house on the west side of Windmill Hill, sixty-six acres and 'three commons'. He died in 1640. He did not receive a bequest in the will of Robert Keayne, because Keayne's will was made in 1653. In 1658 his widow, Alice Rand and her son Thomas jointly had a grant of thirty-four acres of woodland and nine commons.
The Find A Grave: Memorial #92482717 gives Anderson's Great Migration Study Project as a source and says: "Pope has muddled up the records for this immigrant and another Robert Rand who resided in Lynn. In 1898 Florence Osgood Rand claimed that Robert Rand of Lynn was son of Robert Rand of Charlestown, but the evidence behind this claim is insufficient." Since it is now known that Robert Rand of Lynn came from Suffolk and that Robert Rand of Charlestown came from Essexshire, Anderson was correct in questioning the claim that they were son and father.

They aren't the same person. This profile is Robert (m. Alice) son of John . The other is Robert son of Robert. He unfortunately has Alice attached as wife also, but he wasn't married to Alice. I've asked the manager to detach her.
Parents: Robert Rand husband of Alice Unknown (https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Unknown-498305) is the son of John and Katherine (__) Rand of Ridgewell, Essex. She has 2 husbands named Robert Rand. This one has the correct marriage date. Both have incorrect parents. Robert Rand and Alice also had no son listed named Robert.
"Pope has muddled up the records for this immigrant and another Robert Rand who resided in Lynn. SOURCE: Anderson's Great Migration Study Project." Robert Rand of Charlestown came from Essexshire, while Robert Rand of Lynn came from Suffolk. This is shown by the wills of their different fathers in England.
Rand-1354 and Rand-817 do not represent the same person because: They are almost certainly two different men (frequently confused). Which one of them supposedly married an Alice Sharpe is unclear.
Rand-1354 and Rand-817 appear to represent the same person because: There are some discrepancies here, but both men have the same names, approx ages and same wife. Both cannot be correct. Perhaps the profile managers can have a dialog to reach a mutual conclusion and merge.
SAVAGE says Alice Sharpe said to be the daughter of Nicholas Sharpe. NEHGR says that is not the case. It says that Alice, daughter of Nicholas , is mentioned in his will with the surname Netherstreete.
Based on the fact that Alice came from Suffolk, I do not believe she was the wife of this Robert Rand. I believe she was the wife of Robert Rand of Lynn
Given the association of Parnell with Lynn, Massachusetts, she may well be a sister of Robert Rand III, and therefore belong as a child in the profile of Robert Rand II : https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Rand-1354
I am removing my ancestor as a daughter of this couple. The changes made have changed these people into completely different people than they were a month ago. I will recreate my ancestors.
