Biography

Lillian Randall was born on February 5, 1900 in Abredeen, Moore County, North Carolina, United States. She was the daughter of James A. Randall and his first wife, Lousia Smith Randall.[1][2]

In the 1900 U. S. Census (August 11, 1900) the family lived in Abredeen, Moore County, North Carolina. The home was owned. Her father was thirty-eight and working as a railroad engineer. Her mother was forty-two. They had been married fourteen years and had seven children, but only three daughters were living at the time of the census. The children were Eva age twelve and attending school, Louise was two and Lillian was three months old.[3]

Lillian's mother died on December 15, 1901 in Moore County, North Carolina when Lillian was only one year old.[4][5]

James and his two youngest daughters must have moved to Louisiana not long after the death of Louisa. James married Tolantine Major in about 1904 in Louisiana. They had a son, Albin Major Randall, born about 1906 in Louisiana.[5]

in the 1910 U. S. Census (April 27, 1910) the family lived in Nairn, Pointe Coupee, Louisiana. James was farming on a farm owned with a mortgage. His wife was listed as Tolan. She was thirty-nine years old. Their son Albin was four years old. Louise age 13, and Lillian age 10 were both attending school and could read and write.[5]

Another half-brother, Jimmie R. Randall was born on March 13, 1913 in Maringouin, Pointe Coupee Parish, Louisiana, United States.[6]

Lillian completed three years of high school and could read and write.[7]

Tolantine Major Randall, Lillian's stepmother, died on April 21, 1916 in Maringouin, Pointe Coupee, Louisiana.[8]

No information has been located about James, Louise and Lillian for the next few years or through the 1920 U. S. Census. The two sons of Tolantine went to live with her sister, Mrs. Judith Major, who later adopted Jimmie and he used the surname Major instead of Randall. (Cushing-1054 02:17, 13 July 2022 (UTC))[6]

Louis married Lillian Randall at an unknown date. No source has been located at this writing but their first child Lillian Mae Gomez was born in November of 1925 in Louisiana. The first record found of Louis and Lillian was the city directory in 1934 in which Louis and Lillian (x2) were living at 1630 Laurel Street in Baton Rouge. Louis was working in auto repair at 1244 Main Street. They lived and he worked at the same location in 1937.(Cushing-1054 18:50, 13 July 2022 (UTC))[9][10]

In the 1940 U. S. Census (April 10, 1940) the family remained at 1630 Laurel Street in Baton Rouge. The home was rented for $22 a month. Louis was forty-one and was an automobile mechanic in an auto repair shop. He had worked sixty-nine hours in the week between March 24 and March 31, 1940. Lillian, was forty and keeping house. They had two daughters. Lillian M. Gomez was fourteen and had completed seventh grade. Flavia Gomez was eleven and had completed fifth grade.[7]

Louis registered for the World War II draft on February 15,1942 when he was forty-two. The family had moved to a home at 1920 Bay Street in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. His employer was listed as Gomez and Myrick Auto Service located at 1532 Main Street. The business did general auto repairs. The business was owned by Louis L. Gomez and Wert E. Myrick. Mrs. Louis L. Gomez was listed as the person who would always know his address.[11] [12]

Louis and Lillian's oldest daughter, Lillian Mae Gomez, was married to Marion Conway Lust at the home of her parents at1920 Bay Street in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on November 27, 1946 (Thanksgiving Eve). A reception followed the ceremony at the home.[13]

Their other daughter, Flavia (spelled Floria in this article), was married just months later on Saturday evening, March 29,1947 at 6 o'clock at the in the Harding Field Baptist Mission. She was married to Ray Willoughby.[14]

In the Baton Rouge, City Directory for 1948 the Lillian R. and Louis L. Gomez remained at 1920 Bay Street and Louis continued to work at Gomez and Myrick Auto Service at 1532 Main Street.[12]

In the 1950 U. S. Census (April 3, 1950) Louis worked as a mechanic at an auto repair shop that he owned. Lillian was fifty years old. Lillian and Louis were the only members of the household. They lived in the same home on Bay Street.[15]

Lillian died on Friday, February 20, 1977 at the age of seventy. She died at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital. Services were held at St. James Episcopal Church at 2 p.m. Her funeral was held at St. James Episcopal Church at 2 p.m. [2]

Burial was in Roselawn, Memorial Park in Baton Rouge in plot 30, section K. Lewis died in 1977 and is buried in the same plot.[2][1] .
