Thomas Jefferson Randolph married Mary Walker Meriwether, the step-daughter of Francis Kinloch Nelson. When Francis died in 1862, he selected Thomas as his executor. Francis was a very successful farmer with large landholdings. He utilized slave labor, and in 1860 the slave schedule showed him holding 49 slaves. Thomas, as executor, was responsible for the land and slaves, and was included on a Confederate slave payroll for Nelson County when one of the slaves from Thomas's estate was impressed by the Confederate government agents. His name was Norval.[1][2]
