A remeberance by Cherie: In the summer of 1957 as a new AF member I was assigned to Lackland AFB, San Antonio Texas. I received a call from my dad, Col. Jack L. Randolph saying he and his brother Col Richard Randolph, were flying in to see me. Meet them at Randolph AFB flight line, and my Dad said, “Be in uniform!”
I arrived in uniform at appointed time and I walked to the runway fence where a Captain and 3 Airmen were standing. I approached the fence and the Captain shouted, “Back Lt. we have dignitaries arriving”.
I backed away from the gate and stood looking up into the sky for the airplane. I saw the plane approach the end of the runway and I started for the gate again.
Again Captain shouts at me, “I said back off Lt.”
The plane, a T-33, pulled to the Gate and my Dad and Uncle exited the plane.
Now as they approach the gate I run to them shouting Dad-Dick! They each saluted the Arrival Committee and called to me, “Cherie”. I was swept up in hugs and looking over I could see a very red faced Captain! I am sure he thought he was to be sent to Alaska.
