Biography

Beverly Randolph Jr was born 05 Sep 1837 in Tennessee to Beverly Randolph and Lucy W. Searcy.[1][2][3][4][5]

Beverly Randolph, Sen. son of Harrison & Mary Jones Randolph, b. June 21, 1793 - d. Feb 1868, son of Harrison & Mary Jones Randolph, m. 25 Nov 1818 in Rutherford Co., Lucy W. Searcy b. Aug 4, 1802 - d. Dec 30, 1891, the daughter of William W. & Elizabeth T. Searcy. (Randolph Cemetery, Jefferson Pike; Reburied in Evergreen Cemetery, Murfreesboro). He came to Rutherford Co. from Roanoke, VA in 1816. They settled in the Walter Hill area about 1818 on the family farm of her father at a home they called “Riverside”. The burials are known by the will of Dr. Peter Randolph, written June 18, 1856, recorded in the Rutherford Co., TN Record Book 18, p. 125-126. Beverly was his mother’s executor when she d. ca 19 May 1827. In 1854 Commissioners divided Slaves she willed to the children of Beverly Randolph: Sally Randolph (m.1844 Mathias M. Drake); Mary Elizabeth Randolph (deceased, m. 1836 Joshua/Joseph R. Daniel); Peyton Randolph; William H. Randolph; Isham G. Randolph; Beverly Randolph, Jr.; Martha Randolph (m. 1851 John C. Gooch); Catharine Randolph; Charlotte Randolph; Lucy Randolph (m. 1st 1843 James T. Richardson, m. 2nd 1851 John Jones).[6]

In compliance with the order of Gen. Fisk I have the honor most respectfully to forward the "report of all known outrages that have occurred in this District since the 15th of April 1865 committed by white people against the blacks and the reverse." July 28th 1865 - Ben (col'd) Plaintiff vs. Beverly Randolph. Ben says " on the 29th of June Randolph beat my wife with his fists then caught her by the chin threw back her head pulled out his knife swore he would cut her throat---His brother-in-law stopped him, he then went to his house got his pistol and swore he would kill some dam nigger----fired of his pistol and went to Mr. Harris's (the woman was large with child at the time)." Defendant admitted the charge----was fined 50 Dolls. Which was paid to plaintiff.[7]
