Biography

Peyton Randolph was likely born around 1738. He was the son of William Randolph and Anne Harrison.

He was married in 1776 to Lucy Bassett Harrison, daughter of Benjamin Harrison of Berkeley.[1]

Peyton Randolph passed away in 1784 while living at Wilton House on his 2,000-acre World's End plantation in Henrico County, Virginia.

Will

Peyton Randolph wrote his will on 29 February 1784. He died on 15 May 1784 and his will was probated on 7 June 1784 in Henrico County, Virginia.[2]

Slaves

At the time of his death in 1784, Peyton Randolph owned four Virginia plantations: Buffalo Plantation in Prince Edward County, Bush River Plantation in Prince Edward County, Fighting Creek Plantation in Powhatan County, and his home plantation Wilton Estate (also known as World's End) in Henrico County. These plantations were run with enslaved labor. The names of 342 enslaved people were documented in Peyton Randolph's estate inventories and 12 enslaved people were named in his will.
