Biography

  • Twin brother of Edith Mae Rankin Metcalf. Bob was the second born twin, born 8 March 1929 in Oak Park, Illinois, the son of Ralph and Clara Rankin.

In 1930, the Rankin family lived at 3428 Wisconsin Ave., Berwyn, Cook county, Illinois. They rented the home for $45 per month. The household included Ralph Rankin, 34, born in Indiana, whose parents were born in the United States, a telephone company collector, and World War veteran who was 29 when he first married; his wife, Clara, 30, born in Minnesota, whose parents were born in Indiana. Clara was 25 when she first married; their twins, Edith and Robert, one year old, born in Illinois. [1]

The house they lived in in 1930, 3428 Wisconsin Ave., Berwyn, Illinois was built in 1895. It is a three story house which is now divided into two or more condominiums. Berwyn is a suburb of Chicago. [2]

In 1940, the Wackerle family lived at 519 East 5th St., Peru, Indiana. They all had lived in Peru, Indiana for at least five years. The household included Walter Wackerle, 42, born in Indiana, a druggist who owned his own store, and also had an outside income; his wife Helena, 41, b. (South) Dakota, a factory stenographer who made $800 in 1939. Both Walter and Helena had completed four years of high school; Helena’s mother, Edith Wright, 71, b. Indiana, with outside income, a widow, who had completed 6th grade; and head of household’s twin nephew and niece, Robert Rankin and Edith M. Rankin, 11, b. Illinois, who had both completed 6th grade. [3]

Robert and his twin sister Edith moved to Pasadena, California in about 1942, to live with their mother. Edith married in 1949.

In 1950, the Rankins lived on Casa Grande St., Pasadena, California. The household included Clara Rankin, 49, divorced, credit manager of a shoe store, who had completed one year of college, and had worked 52 weeks in 1949, and earned $2900; and her son, Robert Rankin, 21, a service station attendant, who earned $2500, plus $100 in outside income, in 1939. Robert and Eleanor May Williamson were married in March 1956 at South Hollywood Presbyterian Church with 500 guests in attendance. Eleanor was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James William Williamson, of Burbank. She was a graduate of Burbank High School, and Los Angeles City College. Robert was the son of Clara Rankin, Pasadena, and Ralph L. Rankin, of Indianapolis, Indiana. He was a Pasadena City College graduate. After their honeymoon, the couple will make their home in Highland Park (LA, CA). [5] [6]

Bob and Eleanor had three children. [7]

Robert Lorenzo Rankin died on 1 September 1994 (65). Rankin served in the US Navy during the Korean conflict. He is buried at Riverside National Cemetery, Riverside, California. [8] Robert Rankin, Fpgfn, was born 8 March 1929. He served in the US Navy from 8 August 1950 to 7 August 1952 (Korea). Robert died on 1 September 1994, and was interred on 9 September 1994 at Riverside National Cemetery, California. [9]
