Biography

Barbara was born in Maine in September 1881, the daughter of Stephen Rankin and Louisa Richardson. She married Alvin J Treadwell. Barbarra later married Gilmore Wiswell. She passed away about 1944.

In 1880, the Rankin family lived in Mariaville, Maine. All members of the household were born in Maine. The household included Steven N. Rankins (Stephen A. Rankin), 29, a farmer, whose parents were born in Maine; his wife Louisa W., 27, whose parents were born in Maine; their five children: Louis A., 10, in school; George S., 8, in school; Reuben E., 6; Rosa L., 4; and Stephen W., 2.^[1]NOTE: residing on a nearby farm were the James Treadwell and his family, including twin sons, Alvin J. and Arthur H. Treadwell. Alvin would grow up to marry a then as-yet-to-be-born daughter of Stephen and Louisa Rankin, Barbara E. Rankin.

In 1900, the Rankins lived in Mariaville, Maine. All members of the household were born in Maine. All of the adults could read and write. The household included Stephen A. Rankins (Rankin), 50, born in September 1850, whose parents were born in Maine, who owned their farm free and clear; his wife, Louisa W., 47, b. May 1853, parents b. Maine, who had had twelve children, eight of whom were living; their two sons, Wellington, 22, b. April 1878, a day laborer; Charles E., 9, b. September 1891, in school; their daughter, (Barbara) E. Treadwell, 19, b. September 1881; and her husband of one year, Alvin J. Treadwell, 22, b. June 1878, a blacksmith, whose parents were b. Maine.^[2]NOTE: living on nearby farms were the households of: Reuben Rankin; Lewis Rankin; and Nelson (?) Garland, all likely relations of Stephen and Louisa Rankin.
