Biography

Francis “Frank” Albert Rankin was born in Iowa on 14 April 1852, the son of John Rankin and Sarah Polson. Frank married Sarah Elizabeth “Bessie” (Cheshire) Hammond on 24 December 1884 in Lane county, Oregon. She had been married once before, and had two sons, Creed C. Hammond and James G. Hammond. Frank died on 10 April 1925, aged 72, in Eugene, Oregon. He is buried with his wife Sarah Elizabeth at Eugene Pioneer Cemetery, Eugene, Oregon.[1] [2] [3]

In 1900, the Rankins lived in Eugene, Oregon. All members of the household could read and write. The household included Frank Rankin, 48, born in Iowa in April 1852 (father b. Iowa; mother b. Illinois), a dealer of musical instruments, who owned their house with a mortgage; his wife Sarah E., 44, b. Nov 1856 in Oregon (father b. KY; mother b. OR), who had had two children, both living; her son Creed Hammond, 26, b. Oct 1874 (father b. MO), a salesman; Maude Cheshire, 14, b. OR, a boarder; and Leroy P. Snapp, 38, b. CA, widowed, a music teacher.[4]

In 1910, the Rankins lived at 630 Olive Street, Eugene, Oregon. They owned the house without a mortgage. Frank A. Rankin, 57, born in Iowa, was employed as a piano dealer. His wife Elizabeth S., 53, born in Oregon, had had two children, both living. They each had been married once previously.[5]

In 1920, they lived at 960 Olive Street, Eugene, Oregon. Frank A. Rankin, 68, owned a music store. His wife Sarah E. was 63.[6]
