William Rankin was born on 25 April 1815. He married Sarah Ann Allen (b. 1815-16 Ohio; d. 6 May 1851 Ohio). They had five children
William Rankin and Sarah Ann Allen were married on 22 April 1841 in Fairfield, Ohio. Alexander Mauone (sp?), minister of the Gospel, officiated. [2]
In 1850, the Rankin family lived in Logan, Illinois. The household included
William’s wife died in 1851 in Ohio. He later moved to Missouri and remarried to Jane (b. circa 1825 in Ohio).
In 1860, the Rankin family lived on their farm in Mineral Township, Barton County, Missouri. The household included
Since he was born so early after Statehood in Otho (former Northwest Territory), William was almost certainly the son of a Revolutionary War veteran (the govt. rewarded veterans with land in NW Territory, and other places, to help settle the new country)
He and his wife are not found on FindAGrave. Wife Sarah died in Ohio in 1851. It is unknown where or when William died.
Possible second wife, Mary Jane McVey, b. 1831 Fayette, Ohio (https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/details/99R5-YC6), includes marriage record, 18 Aug 1853, Fayette, Ohio, "Ohio, County Marriages, 1789-2016", database with images, FamilySearch (https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XZLY-QRH : 29 September 2021), William Rankin and Mary J. Mcvay, 1853.
I believe that William’s son Linnel (on 1850 census) and Senate (on 1860 census), is Sennet Rankin, b. 1842-44 in Ohio. Sennet/Sinnet/Sinnit Rankin is a name I have encountered before in researching other Rankins, and I believe they must be related in some way since it is such an unusual name. This may be the grave info for Sinnet E. Rankin, son of Wm and S.A. Rankin: (https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/168933897/sinnett-e-rankin), no dates given, Civil War vet’s stone, bio notes aged 19y 3m 24days, May have died in service, Co G (C?), 106 Ill Inf (https://www.nps.gov/civilwar/search-battle-units-detail.htm?battleUnitCode=UIL0106RI). Warning: this same stone is shown in error in the FaG grave photo for another Sinnet Rankin, 1784-1857 (too old to be a Civil War get, but possibly the grandfather of young Sinnet). There are a total of six FaG profiles with the name Sinnet/Sinnett Rankin in the United States (https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/search?firstname=Sinnit+&middlename=&lastname=Rankin&birthyear=&birthyearfilter=&deathyear=&deathyearfilter=&location=United+States+of+America&locationId=country_4&memorialid=&mcid=&linkedToName=&datefilter=&orderby=r&plot=&fuzzyNames=true).
Sennet Rankin, 1817 Ohio - 1913 Logan, Illinois, might be a brother of William (https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/details/L63B-F2M), geographic matches; no parents shown. Click “Sources” for further research.
