Biography

Scholar 1851 Holme on Spalding Moor

Christening

Date: 26 Sep 1843
Place: Holme Upon Spalding Moor, York, England

Enoch Raper with his wife Ann and four children is living in his native village of Holme. We know that her son the first Thomas Raper died young: we wonder from the absence of John b 1838 and Charles b 1846 whether this was their fate also. Arglam Lane leads well outside the village, west into the Moor: Moors in East Yorkshire are old commons, enclosed belatedly or never, but unlike the rest of Yorkshire, moors here are low-lying, flat and hard to drain.

Head Enoch Raper 49 Farm Lab. b Holme
Wife Ann Raper 30 Dressmaker b Holme
Daughter Hannah Raper 15 emp at home b Holme
Son Thomas Raper 7 scholar b Holme
Son Isaac Raper 1 b Holme
Son Henry Raper 1 month b Holme [1]

Lived most of life in Holme upon Spalding Moore

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Thomas by comparing test results with other carriers of his ancestors' Y-chromosome or mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Thomas:
