John Raper was born in about 1628 in Ainderby Quernhow, Pickhill with Roxby, North Riding of Yorkshire, and he was christened on the 27th of September 1628 in All Saints, Pickhill, Pickhill with Roxby, his father was Henry Raper, a landholding farmer in Ainderby Quernhow,[1] and his mother was Meriall () Raper.[2][3]
John was the eldest son of Henry and Meriall, and probably the eldest child, he had at least 4 siblings, who were:
2. William Raper William was born in about 1630 in Ainderby Quernhow, and christened on the 9th of May 1630 in All Saints.[4]
3. Jane Raper Jane was born in about 1632 in Ainderby Quernhow, and christened on the 23rd of October 1632 in All Saints.[5]
4. Christopher Raper Christopher was born in about 1634 in Ainderby Quernhow, and christened on the 10th of April 1634 in All Saints.[6]
5. Henry Raper Henry Raper was born in about 1636 in Ainderby Quernhow, and christened on the 5th of October 1636 in All Saints.[7]
When John was about 26 years old his father, Henry, passed away, and John inherited Henry's house, lands, and farming equipment, as the eldest son. [8] His mother, Meriall, died 9 years later in 1663.[9]
Married Life: 1658-
John married Sarah Denton, of Carthropp, Harrogate, West Riding of Yorkshire, on the 7th of November 1658 in All Saints, when he was about 30 years old.[10]
John and Sarah had at least 8 children together, who were:
1. Henry Raper Henry was born in about 1659 in Ainderby Quernhow, and he was christened on the 19th of February 1659 in All Saints.[11]
2. Dorithy Raper Dorithy was born in about 1661 in Ainderby Quernhow, and she was christened on the 1st of March 1661 in All Saints.[12] Dorithy died in 1676, when she was about 15 years old, she was buried on the 1st of June 1676 in All Saints. [13]
3. William Raper William was born in about 1664 in Ainderby Quernhow, and he was christened on the 6th of September 1664 in All Saints.[14] At some stage William had moved to York, but he was buried in All Saints on the 12th of May 1688, when he was 24 years old. [15]
4. John Raper John was born in about 1667 in Ainderby Quernhow, and he was christened on the 17th of April 1667 in All Saints.[16] John died in childhood, before he was 6 six years old, he probably died in 1669, at two years old, being buried on the 5th of July 1669 in All Saints. [17]
5. Philip Raper Philip was born in about 1668 in Ainderby Quernhow, and he was christened on the 6th of May 1668 in All Saints.[18]
6. Miriam Raper Miriam was born in about 1670 in Ainderby Quernhow, and she was christened on the 19th of November 1670 in All Saints.[19]
7. John Raper John was born in about 1673 in Ainderby Quernhow, and he was christened on the 5th of August 1673 in All Saints.[20]
8. Christopher Raper Christopher was born in about 1676 in Ainderby Quernhow, and he was christened on the 10th of February 1676 in All Saints.[21]
In 1691 John's wife, Sarah, passed away and she was buried on the 2nd of June 1691 in All Saints.[22] John passed away shortly after.
Death: 1691
John died in 1691 in Ainderby Quernhow, when he was about 71 years old, and he was buried in All Saints on the 3rd of March.[23]
