Robert was born on the 19th June 1887 in Aschill, Camborne, Cornwall, England [1]. He was the son of William Henry Rashleigh and Elizabeth Ann Hocking. He lived with his parents and siblings until he was a young man [2][3][4]. Like his brothers and father Robert worked in the tin mines.
Eventually Robert followed the lead of his brothers and emigrated to the United States. He departed from Southampton on the 19th Apr 1911 aboard the ship Teutonic of the White Star Line heading for New York [5].
Robert met an untimely death on the 10th June 1914 in Calumet, Michigan. He was 27 years old. He went for a swim in the C&H bathhouse in Calumet. He was not a strong swimmer. Unnoticed by the other bathers, he got into difficulties and drowned. The precise circumstances were unknown [6][7].
