BIOGRAPHY

Danish Native
Jorgen Rasmussen was born in Denmark

Jorgen Rasmussen Skaaning was born 19 Sept 1770 in Herritslev, Musse, Maribo, Danmark.

He was the son of Rasmus (Jacobsen) Jacobsen Romme and Else Jorgensdatter.

(NOTE - the following is based on his movement on the Military Rolls - Laegdrulles) In about 1794-1795 at the age of 24 Jorgen moves from Herritslev to Radsted.

In 1795 he takes over farm plot referenced as Matr. nr. 36 Radsted originally listed as Skaaningsgaard now it is Langsvej 25, Sakskøbing, Denmark. This is located just northwest of Radsted and still is in existence today. (Ref. attached 1798 Radsted map and historical listing from Ref. Book).

In 1796 at the age of 16 his brother Peder has also moved to Radsted probably to help his brother Jorgen with the farm.

Jorgen marries Johanne Pedersdatter about 1795 when to took over the farm. She is the daughter of the previous owner of the farm Peder Clausen Skaaning.

In 1798 Jorgen and Johanne have their first child and that same year Peder his brother moves back to Herritslev to live with his parents. Jorgen and Johanne continue to have seven more children between 1798 and 1810. One of whom died at birth (no name).

On the 9 May 1812 his wife Johanne dies.

Jorgen marries Anne Margrethe Frederiksdatter on 26 Jun 1812. She is from a farm plot listed as Matr. nr. 20 Radsted which is just to the west of Radsted. Listed as Østerbyvej 39, Sakskobing, Denmark and owned by her father Frederik Rasmussen Stryger. It was barely one mile east to Jorgen's farm. The farm is still in existence today.

Jorgen died 30 Apr 1832. His wife Anne took over the farm. In 1855 she paid off the debt on the farm and took ownership. Has her youngest son stayed on the farm to help manage the farm

Hans married Maren Larsdatter of Slemminge about 1854 (unknown where). They lived on the farm with his mother and helped manage it until 1859 when Hans took over the farm from his mother. She probably lived on the farm until her death in 1872.

Hans and his wife had six children. They continued living on the farm until after his wife died in 1889. He sold it in 1890.
