Jens Rasmussen was born December 28th 1817 in Horslunde as son of smallholder in Uhrne Rasmus Mortensen Kuld and wife Maria Jensdatter. He was baptized in Horslunde Church February 1st 1818 [1]
He participated in the First Schleswig War 1848 - 1850
Application for the commemorate medal 1848 - 1850
and was honored as Dannebrogsmand. In 1876 he applied for a commemorative medal for the 1848 - 1850 war and also received it. [3] In the application he writes, that he served in the 1st Batallion, 2nd Company #4 as commander and that he was neither wounded or captured during service but was awarded Dannebrog's badge of Honor.
In the 1850 Danish census he was away in the war, in 1855 and 1860 he was a smallholder in Uhrne, Horslunde. [4]. In the 1860 census it was mentioned, that he was Dannebrogsmand
He emigrated from Denmark April 25th, 1885 on the ship Island with wife Kirsten, daughter Ane and possible grandchild Julie and foster child Mathine [5]
