Biography

The Belleville Telescope, August 18, 1994 Leslie John Rasmussen, son of R. August and Christian Sjoholm Rasmussen was born May 21, 1900 on a farm northwest of Scandia and died August 9, 1994 at the Belleville Health Care Center at the age of 94 years, two months and 18 days. He was baptized at the Scandia Methodist Church and received his primary education at the Pleasant Grove District 61 School.

He was united in marriage to Flossie Davis December 24,1925 and to this union three children were born; Harold Dean, Joyce Verlee. and Carol June. He lived in the Sherdahl and Scandia communities for 60 years. He was a farmer, did custom grain threshing and corn shelling for many years. He was also a musician, playing the saxiphone in a dance band in Nebraska and Kansas and for many community programs.

He was a member of the Sherdahl Anti-Theft Association, a 50 year member of the Scandia and Belleville Odd Fellows Lodge and served on the Union Valley District 39 School Board. He and his wife moved close to Belleville in 1960 where they raised chickens and sold eggs. They were members of the Republic County Quality Egg Club. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Harold, brothers Fred, Ralph and Charles, sisters Mabel Street and Amanda Fredrickson. He is survived by his wife Flossie, daughters Joyce Blecha of Munden and Carol Pachta of Belleville, 17 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

Services were held Friday, August 12, 1994 at Tibbetts- Fischer Chapel in Belleville with Pastor Marion Walker officiating. Burial was at the Prairie Rose Cemetery, southeast of Republic.
