My family has been“stumped”on our RATCLIFFE family tree for some 50 years.

We can’t determin which country my GGGrandfather, Raynert Ratcliffe, came from? His Marriage Cert it says he was a FARMER from Norway. It says father“farmer from Norway”, with same name Raynert. Mothers name=Alice Anderson. Raynert & Ratcliffe aren’t Norwegian names. My G Aunt visited the UK & found no sign of him. We have NO record of him arriving in Australia. The 652 descendants I’ve found, have no idea where my GGGrandfather, camefrom. Latest thinking; he changed his name? Ship Records show“RENNARD P PETERSEN b.1841 in Norway”arrived in Sydney, x 3 in 1863 as Midshipman on ship “Telegraph.” Trying tofind wher Rennard was born in Scandinavia?&locate any ancestors that have matchin

Hi Mark: What stands out for me is his young age on travelling from home to Australia, I think I read that somewhere else. I've found that a younger brother waited for dad to allow him to join an elder brother, who had travelled a few years before, or he went with an older person. The witness, a German, is interesting, I guess he was a friend from Europe. I would spend some time looking at him.

Hi Mark

Thank you for adding your DNA to WikiTree. Getting the Best from DNA will tell you more about how DNA kits are used on WikiTree.

And I recommend asking for help for your Norwegian Ancestor in our Genealogist to Genealogist G2G Forum. WikiTree has a wonderfully generous collaborative community of volunteers that love to help!

Best of luck with your research!
