Biography

She was born on 19 September 1620 [citation needed] in Lancashire, England and her parents were Elizabeth (Cotchings, c1600-c1679) and Richard Ratcliff(e), Sr. (c1585–1630).

Isle of Wight County, Virginia was formed in 1634. [1]

Sarah Ratcliff(e) married about 1640 in Virginia to John Joseph Copeland [2] (1615–1690). Some Copelands emigrated to America to escape persecution, in particular [3] ...

"John Copeland, son of Lawrence, born in 1612, sailed to America in 1635 on the "Assurance de Lo". He had married, possibly outside his local community, a Miss Radcliffe from Lancaster".

She died on 06 September 1687 [citation needed] in Isle of Wight County, Virginia. [4]

A LOT of information was deleted from the other profiles but some nonsensical data was left like two half bios stating she was born _ she died _...

It is important to bring over everyone's data unless a conversation is had and the other party(ies) relinquish their sources and bio. I went and tried to retrieve the old data to post back but will have to retype every bit of it as copy and paste places it in a bright background with a different colour font. Please do not complete any merges we have if the intention is to delete anything I've spent time working on. Thanks! Becks

I agree that a merged bio should include into from both profiles and think I have corrected that in a merge cleanup.

I would like to transfer this profile to you also.

I will approve the merge but have work to do.

Sarah's Father Richard immigrated in 1607, her birth place would be Isle of Wight, Isle of Wight (Isle of Wight), Virginia, USA https://www.familysearch.org/tree/sources/viewedit/9G1M-SLJ

according to Geni, Richard's Father Sir John James Ratcliffe 1549-was the immigrant , This has his death https://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page Still searching, Ancestry trees have them mixed .

I thought the first person born (in what is now USA) of European parents was Peregrine White in Nov 1620 to puritans from the Mayflower voyage. But would have to research for Virginia.

I could not see any good sources on the FamilySearch family tree. Please let me know if you can track any of them down.

Wikitree says Richard's father was William but Geni says it was John, so a source will be needed there to confirm which is correct. The wikipedia page you referenced was not specific. I did find this one ...

https://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Ratcliffe_(governor)

However please note that it says he changed his surname from John Sicklemore to John Ratcliffe. It also does not mention any of his children. Since he is a notable person (being a governor) we need a good source for who his children were.

What do you all think if we could leave the "Ratcliffe" spelling variation under the Other Last Names so there is no possible for the continued duplication of these profiles? There is another merge I just proposed from an upload of many duplicates but I asked it to go in this direction based on what was discussed prior in the comments section. Cheers! Becky

i am agreeable to that suggestion

Ratcliffe-1538 and Ratcliff-2058 appear to represent the same person because: I don't know why these entire family lines were ignored but I thought I found all of the dupes two weeks ago and these all popped up on a gedcom refresh. Regardless of the spelling, both surnames are accepted and Ratcliff has been in existence longer

quote> using marriage record as source, the name is correct on Ratcliff-284

Could you please share this marriage record ? Thanks

After looking into this further, the correct spelling is more likely Ratcliff. I will correct my mistake.

Ratcliffe-284 and Ratcliff-780 appear to represent the same person because: same name; same spouse.

Ratcliffe-85 and Ratcliff-780 appear to represent the same person because: Name variation, duplicate profile. Please review for merge and determine version of surname. Thank you.
