Some reports are that Henry T. Ratts was born in Pennsylvania, but nothing has been found to support his place of birth
Henry T. Ratts signed his will 21 April 1833; it was probated in Washington County, Indiana; the county's will books are well preserved and able to be copied. [1]
Henry and Rebecca moved from North Carolina between 1820 and 1830 according to census reports. [2][3][4][5][6]
Henry Ratts (Ratz the German spelling) came to this country with his friend Ludgwig Winkler (Winckler in German). By 1776 they are located in Rowan County, North Carolina, and owned property in an area along Potts Creek. Time and usage changed the German spelling of Ludwig Winkler to Lewis Wingler as did Henrick Ratz to Henry Ratts. Henry T. Ratts was born 1770 and his wife, Barbara Winkler was born 1769. They settled in Washington County in 1823. Henry was a son of Godfried Ratts of North Carolina. She was the daughter of Francis Winkler and Mary Catherine Bott.[7]
