Biography

Volga German
Susanna Rau is a Volga German.
Susanna Rau has German Roots.

Family #12 in the 1767 Grimm census.

Susanna Rau was the daughter of Balthasar and Maria Rau of Darmstadt, Germany. Her parents immigrated to Russia when she was only 2 months old. There is a Balzer Rau listed in the Kulberg Reports, and it appears like it is a match with her father's name.

"Rau Balzer, Luth., farmer from Darmstadt, doc. No. 2411, wife: Maria, children: Heinrich, 4, Anna, 9, Julianna, 6, Susanna, 1/6." [emphasis added]

[1]

The family arrived in Russia on 22 July 1766 via the pink Lev. No ages are listed for Balzer and his wife Maria. [1] There is no mention of the family in the Volga German Transportation List. [2]

The one possible alternate spelling of the name as Rausch is not a match.

By 1767, she is not listed in the Grimm census with her family.
