Note: John came to America in 1818. He went first to Alabama and then to Muhlenberg County, Kentucky. Shortly after his marriage he built a sawmill.
In October 1829 the family moved to Sangamon County, Illinois and settled in Auburn township on Sugar Creek, where he built a saw and grist mill. The mill was located on Sugar Creek about 7 miles northeast of Auburn.
