Memories from people in Wildcat Hollow
R. P. Raulston kept bees and had a blacksmith shop out back. When people got sick or hurt, they came to him because he had studied medical books. They used the stars to give medicine by. R. P. knew all about the moon and constellations, and used to point them out to the grandchildren. He loved music and books. Usually the school teachers for Wildcat Hollow stayed at his house.[5] Robert P. was a farmer who hunted for his meat. Robert P. Raulston was a wood craftsman and farmer, belonged to the Church of Christ, and was approximately 6 feet tall, 170 pounds, and dark complexion. [46]
Per Marjorie Hawkins www.ancestry.com/facts/hawkins-family-history “My granddaddy [R.P.] nicknamed me Jack. Everyone in Arkansas called me Jack when I was small, until we left Arkansas.”

My Dad, my Aunt Pearl, my Aunt Rena, Uncle Alvin, Uncle Aldon, Bill Wofford, J. C. & Judy Gentry all adored him. The word most often used to describe him was "gentleman." He is said to have been gentle & kind and very compassionate. My Dad said he was intelligent and fair, he respected and listened to other people, including children.
Aunt Rena said that as the table was being set for a large group of family they ran out of plates and set out tin pans for the children. Rena said her Grandpa quietly moved a tin pie plate for his place too. When the daughters quickly said "oh, no Dad, you need a plate." Rena said he smiled and said, "I think I will just eat out of the same things the children are eating out of." That sounds like my own Dad and it touched me.
Rena also noticed something else that was different than most people of that time. When they killed a hog they often hired some black men to come and help out, it was a long, hard job. When dinner (the middle meal) was set the hired hands started away from the table, as was the custom of that time and place. Grandpa Roulston told them to come back, saying "we worked side by side, we can eat side by side." She had admired that.
He must have been a man who lived by his own moral standards.
