Family #P-7 in the appendix of the 1798 Grimm census.

Family #104 in the 1834 Grimm census.

The names of his parents are unknown for now. He first appears in the 1798 census as married and living with his sister Anna Barbara Mertz.

1798 Grimm Census [1]

Family # 7 in the Appendix of the 1798 census
Head of the Household Philipp Mertz, age 51
Wife Anna Barbara Rausch, age 41
Brother-in-Law Johann Adam Rausch, age 34
Wife of Brother-in-Law Barbara Waag, age 21

Johann Adam Rausch, and his wife, Barbara Waag Rausch, lived with his sister Anna Barbara and her husband Philip Mertz at the time of the 1798 census. No children are recorded for the Mertz family. It's not clear if the Mertz children were married and living with other families, or if they had no children. If they had no children, it might explain why Johann Adam and his wife were living with them, helping to care for their farm. There are no Mertz families in the 1834 census, so it appears that after the death of Anna Barbara and her husband, the farm passed down to her brother Johann Adam Rausch. [2]
