Alvin Clarence Ray was born November 10 ^[1] or 20,^[2] 1915 In Meeker County, Minnesota, United States to parents William Ray ^[3] and Annie Workman. ^[2]

Alvin grew up on a farm in Kingston, Meeker, Minnesota, United States with his parents and 5 siblings. ^[3][4] 1940 Alvin was working road construction through the W.P.A. The census stated that completing 6th grade was the most schooling he had received.^[5] 1950 Alvin had taken over running the farm. ^[6] In 1952 and 1954 his parents died.
