Research Notes

In "Descendants of Joseph Ray" genealogy in my possession, John Ray (b. 24 December 1869) is listed as an older brother to Alexander (b. May 1870). Since John does not appear in the 1870 Census record, it is assumed that he was born earlier than family record shows, and died as an infant before the Census, if that birth date is correct. Family record also shows older brother James as born in 1869, but the census record (recorded in August 1870) shows that he was 2 years old at the time of the census, making his birth around or before August 1868. Subsequent investigation shows that John was actually born in 1875, as shown in sources included in his profile.
