Biography

In 1861 John was articling as a solicitor's clerk in Rawdon, Yorkshire. He married Sarah Johnson in 1868^[1] and in 1871 he was a solicitor in Keynsham, Somerset. By 1878 the family had moved to Bradford, Yorkshire and the family had grown to eight children by 1880.

His wife Sarah died in 1886 and by 1890 John had moved to Foxton, Manawatu, on the North Island of New Zealand and had remarried. His second wife died in 1897 and around the turn of the century, John moved his practice to Manchester Street in Fielding. He died in 1907. His will, drawn up on September 18, 1901, named his daughter Annie Augusta Ray as executrix. It was proved on January 28, 1908.
