Biography

English flag
Alice (Ray) Morris has English ancestors.
Lucy was born to John Ray and Margaret Robinsonon 23 Sep 1860 [1] in Jackson, Missouri.
Her father was taken as a prisoner of war during the civil war on July 5, 1863 at the battle of Vicksburg [2]. He disappears from the family and Lucy's mother remarries. However, her father isn't dead, as he filed for a disability pension (claiming invalid) in March of 1887 .[3]
On April 2, 1866, her mother remarries Silas Vaughn on on the 1870 census, Lucy appears as Lucy Vaugn. Silas runs the farm and Lucy's mother tends to the children. [4] Her family lives at Fort Osage, Jackson, Missouri.

Marriage and Family

George Morris and Lucy Ray married on September 9, 1879 in Missouri. [5]
In 1880, Lucy and George maintain a farm in Sni-a-bar, Missouri.[6]
I am unable to find the 1890 census, but on the 1900 census[7], the family still lives on the farm in Sni-a-bar, Missouri and have six children at home. Lucy reports that she's given birth to 8 children, and lost one. All but the youngest two children are attending school.
In 1910, the couple has had 9 living children, but only 5 still live at home. Their son, Cecil Morris (A Civil War Survivor), helps run the farm.[8]
In 1920, only the youngest child still lives with them on the farm.[9] and by 1930, the couple run the farm alone, and own their own radio set. [10]
On 29 Mar 1934, their marriage ended when George succombed to pneumonia. [11]

Widowhood

After her husband's death, she lived alone on her farm until her house burned down. Afterwards, she lived with her children.[5]
In 1940, she lives with her single son, Henry, on his farm. [12]
When she died in 1943, she was living with her daughter, Lilla (Morris) Minter.

Death and Burial

Lucy passed away on 4 Jul 1943 in Bates, Jackson, Missouri from Coronary occlusion due to arteriosclerosis. She was buried in Oak Grove Cemetery in Oak Grove, Jackson, Missouri. [1][13]

Conflict

Alice Lucy Morris Obit
Alice Lucy Wray Morris.
Her name is listed on her death certificate as Alice Lucy, and in her obituary. Some sources (such as her headstone) refer to her as Lucy Alice. However, since official documents call her Alice Lucy, I've used this name.
Additionally, some sources (including a family Bible and second obituary) refer to her as last name as "Wray." However, all other documentation uses "Ray."
