Jeanette was born in 1883, the daughter of John Raymond and Big Winnebago Woman.
Name
Only one census (1891) gives her Hocąk name, and that is in translation. There she is called "Green Thunder," which would be Wakąjačowįga in Hocąk. This is from Wakąja, "Thunderbird"; čo, "a color spanning the spectrum from green through blue"; -wį-, a feminine gender infix; -ga, a definite article suffix used in personal names. This is a Thunderbird Clan name.
Marriages
In 1904 she gave birth to Raymond Baptiste, apparently the son of John Baptiste. He died in infancy around 1907. In 1908 she formally married William Sun. Around 1911, he went on to marry Clara Payer, so her marriage to William had been dissolved by that date. She formalized her relationship with John Baptiste by marrying him in 1914, but he died a year later. In 1917 she was apparently living with John Baptiste's brother Jerome, of whom the census taker remarks, "reported living with Jeanette Raymond, Mar. status unknown." The 1921 census shows her married to Louis French (b. 1877), but this union did not last too many years.
