Biography

Johana Margaret Raymond was born on April 19, 1824, the daughter of Wilhelmina and Francis.

• Fact: Christening (1 Feb 1825) Madras, Madras, India

She was born in Tranquebar, which was a Danish settlement at the time. Her marriage record lists her as 'Indo - Brit', which probably means that her father, Francis Raymond was of mixed British and Indian descent. Her mother, Wilhelmina was evidently Danish, or at least half Danish. Even her first name 'Johana' is Danish, but later records show that she changed her name from Johana Maragret to Margaret Jane. She married Joseph Ferdinand Nicholas on February 22, 1841.

They had 11-16 children (doubts that 16 could have been born over 41 years). She died on May 4, 1887, in India at the age of 63, and was buried in Madras
