Biography

William was born 9/24/1831 in Sadsbury, Lancaster, Pennsylvania. He was the son of John Rea and Catharine Slaymaker. In 1860 William was living with his parents and siblings in Sadsbury, Lancaster, Pennsylvania where he was working as a laborer. William fought for the Union in the US Civil War. He enlisted as a Private in Co. C., 79th PA Infantry on Oct. 18, 1861 & was honorably discharged from that unit on May 18, 1863. He later enlisted in Co. B of the same regiment on Feb. 2, 1865 & mustered out of that unit on May 21, 1865. In 1870 William was back living with his parents and siblings in Sadsbury, Lancaster, Pennsylvania where he was working as a laborer. William married Eliza J. Cunningham in about 1871. By 1880 William and Eliza were settled in Rising Sun, Cecil, Maryland where William they raised their children and where William was a farm laborer. William died 6/26/1916 and is buried with family members in the Brookview Cemetery in Rising Sun, Cecil, Maryland.
