Biography
Elizabeth Rae (Reay) was born at Horton Grange, Ponteland parish, Northumberland, England, about 1658, daughter of William and Barbara (Dowson) Rea. She died at Longbenton, Northumberland, England, 2 July 1722, aged 63, and was buried at Longbenton.[1] She was of Ponteland when she married at Longbenton, 10 May 1681 (banns posted 23 April 1681), Cuthbert Alder of Longbenton.[2]
Cuthbert Alder was baptized at Morpeth, Northumberland, England, 10 November 1650, son of Cuthbert and Mary (Baytes/Bates) Alder;[3] died at Weteslede, Northumberland, 27 November 1736; and was buried at Longbenton, 30 November 1736.[4][5][6]
In the will of her grandfather, William Dowson Gent., dated 31 March 1680, Elizabeth Reah and her sister Barbara Reah were willed £5 each.[7]

Cuthbert Alder, b. ca. 1690 (named in the will of his grandfather, William Reay); d. Horton Grange, Ponteland parish, 29 Sept. 1763. He m. (1) Morpeth, 21 Nov. 1721, Jane Hancock.[9] She was possibly the Jane “Handcock” bap. Morpeth, 1 Nov. 1694, dau. of Henry and Mary (Wilson) Hancock.[10] He m. (2) Morpeth, 22 April 1724, Elizabeth Ogle.[11] She was bur. Ponteland, 27 Oct. 1728. Cuthbert Alder voted for his town in 1734 and 1748. Children, bap. at Ponteland, by second wife, Elizabeth Ogle:
Cuthbert Alder, bap. 10 May 1726; d. 19 Nov. 1791. By a relationship with Mary Gowans of Horton Grange, he had twins, Margaret Alder and Cuthbert Alder, both bap. Rothbury 15 Oct. 1763. Cuthbert fils d. young. He m. (1) Ponteland, 28 Aug. 1766, Ann Twizell, bap. Ponteland, 21 Feb. 1743/4, dau. of Cuthbert and Anne (Alder) Twizell. He m. (2) Ponteland, 28 Dec. 1788, Ann Emerson, b. 1738. Ann m. (2) Ponteland, 23 June 1794, Nathaniel Grace. Cuthbert’s children by Anne Twizell (bap. Ponteland) were: Cuthbert Alder (b. 24 May 1767, bap. 29 June 1767; d. 21 July 1785, bur. 24 July 1785), William Alder (bap. 8 Sept. 1768; d. 23 March 1800) and Robert Alder (b. Jan. 1770, bap. 7 Jan. 1770; d. 15 March 1788, bur. 19 March 1788). Cuthbert voted in 1774 for his town.

William Alder, bap. 27 Oct. 1728; d. 1779. He was apprenticed 24 Nov. 1746 to John More of Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, bookkeeper. He was admitted to Meist (?) Co. on 4 Oct. 1754.
Edward Alder, b. ca. 1695; d. Tuesday, 10 April 1775, “of injuries suffered from a goring by a bull. He received the wounds several days before.”[12] He m. Newburn, Northumberland, 19 Oct. 1742, Mary Sharper, bap. Ponteland, 29 July 1707, d. 11 Feb. 1786, dau. of William and Isabel (Barkas) Sharper of Heddon-on-the-Wall, at Longbenton. She was the sister of Isabell Sharper who m. John Meggison. He voted for North Weteslede in 1748 and 1774; he was also a freeholder in 1774. Children, bap. at Ponteland:

Edward Alder, bap. 31 Oct. 1750; bur. 21 June 1790. He lived at Low Weteslede. In 1789, his address listed at Weetslet, Northumberland, subscribed to vol. 1 of The History and Antiquities of the Town and County of the Town of Newcastle upon Tyne, including an account of the coal trade of that place, and embellished with engraved views of the public buildings (1789) by John Brand.
Anne Alder, bap. 9 July 1702. She was bur. 12 Dec. 1745. She m. Longbenton, 27 April 1736, Cuthbert Twizell, bap. Hartburn, 13 Aug. 1706, son of Robert and Ann (Pott) Twizle of Mitford.[13] Children, bap. at Ponteland:
