Biography
William Read
William Read was born in 1671 in Kildare and Rathangan, Kildare, the son of William. He had one daughter Elizabeth Guinness with Catherine Read in 1698.
Buried outside the South wall of the ruined church. The inscription (on the East side) reads: "This is the burial place of Willm. Read, Senr., where he and his wife Catherine lyeth, and also Elizabeth Guinness, daughter to said Willm. and Catherine and wife of Richd. Guinness, who departed this life ye 28 days of August 1742. Aged 44 years. This stone erected by ye above Richd. Guinness. The original headstone stands behind this stone. The above inscription is copied from it. 1895."
