Biography

Hansen Read married Hannah Cruff who after his death married to Jonathan Comstock. Sometimes Hannah Cruff is incorrectly noted as Hannah Flint who was actually the mother of Hannah Cruff.

Hannah and Hansen Read resided in Smithfield, Rhode Island at least by 1758 when their daughter Patience was born. ^[1][2]

In 1774 their large family of nine can be seen in the Rhode Island Census. Daughters Huldah and Patience were married at Smithfield in 1783 and 1796 respectively. ^[3]

Years later the Will of Hannah (Cruff) Comstock shows she had at least these four children with Hanson Read (birth order uncertain, list is likely not complete) :

1. Patience m. Asa Arnold
2. Eli Read
3. William Read
4. Huldah m. Ebenezer Trask

A family bible recorded in New York's Swan Vital Record Collection affirms that Eli Read's father is Hansen Read. ^[4]

Two of Hansen's sons, William and Eli, and his grandson Elijah (son of William) were all very active in Steuben County New York land transfers. ^[5]

Note: He may have a son named Hansen Read who resided in Providence n 1820. 1820 US Census at North Providence shows a Hanson Read household of 9 or 10
