Leslie Reading is on the
Les was the eldest son of Thomas and Rose. He was born in Kempton [1] and grew up with many cousins.
His mother died when he was three and his father remarried a few years later.
Leslie worked with his father on the family's farm at Apsley until he enlisted on 30th September 1914. He served in the 15th Battalion AIF [2].

One misdemeanor was recorded against Les while in the army. On New Years Day 1915 he was charged with refusing to cease playing cards and getting away from the Mess Hall table when ordered by a sergeant.
Les was reported missing on 9th May 1915 and was confirmed dead three hours later.
Leslie was killed at Gallipoli while in the company of Cecil Wright, a soldier from his home town of Kempton. Cecil returned alive and visited with Les' family to tell them of his final day.
After his death his effects were sent home, consisting of one hairbrush, one pocket mirror and one new testament.
His family requested two images of his grave which were supplied. They also received a memorial scroll and the traditional message from the King.
